• Merrobe 500mg Injection contains Meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic from the beta-lactam group. It is prescribed for the treatment of severe bacterial infections, especially those caused by multi-drug-resistant organisms, commonly in hospitalized or critically ill patients.
• Mechanism of Action:
  • Meropenem works by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) inside bacteria, which are essential for building the bacterial cell wall. By blocking the final steps of cell wall synthesis, it weakens the bacterial structure and causes cell death. This makes meropenem highly effective against a wide range of bacteria, including many drug-resistant strains.
• Common Side Effects:
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash
  • Injection site inflammation
• Possible Side Effects:
  • Seizures (especially in high doses or renal failure)
  • Diarrhea due to Clostridium difficile infection
