- Wistin (Colistimethate Sodium 2 MIU Injection) is a powerful antibiotic used in the treatment of severe infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. It is typically used when other antibiotics are ineffective.
- Mechanism of Action: Colistimethate Sodium works by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, leading to cell death. It is particularly effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
- Indications:
- Hospital-acquired pneumonia
- Bacteremia
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Intra-abdominal infections
- Other life-threatening infections caused by resistant Gram-negative organisms
- Storage Instructions:
- Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place
- Protect from light and moisture
- Do not freeze
- Keep in original packaging to protect from light
- After Reconstitution:
- Use immediately after mixing whenever possible
- If not used immediately, store refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C
- Use within 24 hours of reconstitution
- Do not freeze the reconstituted solution
- Discard any unused portion after 24 hours
